The story by the famous Russian writer Nikolai Gogol, "The Overcoat", was published in Tanzania, translated into Swahili. The work of the classic of Russian literature was published by the representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo in Dar es Salaam. The state language of Tanzania and Kenya is spoken by more than 200 million people. Joshua Madumulla acted as a translator; the inhabitants of Tanzania are well aware of his literary work.

The book is decorated with original illustrations by the graphic artist from Orel Vyacheslav Romashov. The first print run is planned to be transferred to school libraries and the Central National Library of the African country.

This is not the first work by Gogol to be translated into Swahili. Earlier, "The Inspector General" comedy play was released in Swahili within the framework of the Library of Russian Classics project. The play is now part of the repertoire of many theater companies in Tanzania.

The translation and publication of the best examples of foreign literary classics into Swahili is of great importance today for the countries of East Africa, since the need to familiarize citizens with world culture is acutely felt.
