The title of Citizen of the Year in Estonia was awarded to a Russian doctor, RIA Novosti reports. Arkady Popov, the medical head of the crisis headquarters of the Health Department, was noted for his great personal contribution to the fight against coronavirus infection.

The tradition of awarding has existed in Estonia for almost 20 years, the title has been awarded for the 18th time. 12 people claimed the honorary title.

According to Estonian Minister of Culture Tõnis Lukas, it is people like Arkady Popov who are turning the Baltic republic into a safer place to live. The clear position and decisive behavior of Arkady Popov in the fight against coronavirus is very inspiring, the minister is sure.

The doctor himself admitted that it is a great honor for him. He assured that the achievement would be impossible without his colleagues. Arkady Popov also believes that in many ways the fight against coronavirus depended on each resident of the country, since the crisis can only be fought in a team.
