The anniversary of Fyodor Dostoevsky next year will be celebrated within the framework of the Days of Spiritual Culture of Russia, RIA Novosti reports. The corresponding proposal was made by Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate.

He recalled that next year there are double memorable dates associated with Dostoevsjy's life. 2021 marks not only two centuries since the birth of the writer, but also 140 years since his death. The representative of the Russian Orthodox Church is sure that these dates are a valid reason for organizing commemorative events.

Metropolitan Hilarion recalled that Dostoevsky's creative legacy is well known throughout the world. The name of the writer will attract many of his admirers, the clergyman is sure. Therefore, we can count on the broadest participation in the events of admirers of our great compatriot's talent.

The 200th anniversary of the great writer will be celebrated in 2021 at the state level. It will become a world event under the auspices of UNESCO. In the spring, the head of the organization, Audre Azoulay, at a meeting with the Minister of Culture of Russia Vladimir Medinsky, invited Russia to jointly celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Russian classic.
