St.Petersburg begins to celebrate the anniversary of Fyodor Dostoevsky with a cultural marathon, TASS reports. Two hundred years since the birth of the great writer will be celebrated on November 11, 2021.

This year, the cultural marathon will begin with the opening ceremony of the monument at the grave of the writer after the completion of the restoration work. It is scheduled for November 11 and is timed to the 199th anniversary of Dostoevsky. The tombstone was restored at the expense of the Hrachya Poghosyan Charitable Foundation. Fyodor Dostoevsky is buried in the St. Petersburg's Alexander Nevsky Lavra.

On the eve of the anniversary, exhibitions and lectures are planned in the city. The Dostoevsky Museum will renew its exposition. A large-scale exhibition project is being prepared for the anniversary of the author of The Idiot, Crime and Punishment, The Brothers Karamazov. It will be joined by the Russian Museum and the Engineering Castle. The Dahl Museum is also participating.

Lectures on the life and work of the writer will be read by scientists at the Officers' House. The Cultural Marathon will finish with a dictation based on excerpts from Dostoevsky's works.

As Russkiy Mir reported earlier, the 200th anniversary of the great writer would be celebrated in 2021 at the state level. Dostoevsky's anniversary will become a world event under the auspices of UNESCO.
