Placido Domingo made his conductor debut at Bolshoi Theater

Placido Domingo performed in Moscow last night, TASS reports. The audience met with him at the Bolshoi Theater. This time, the world opera star took a place at the conductor's stand during the performance of Puccini's opera Manon Lescaut.

For the first time he ran the Bolshoi Theater Symphony Orchestra. Placido Domingo came out to the audience, who greeted him with a long standing ovation, wearing a mask, in full compliance with sanitary safety measures.

Due to the unfavorable epidemiological situation, the hall was only half full, the audience observed social distance and mask mode.

The main parts were performed by the soloists of the Bolshoi Theater Anna Nechaeva, Oleg Dolgov and Elchin Azizov. The premiere of the opera opened the season in 2016, when Anna Netrebko and her husband Yusif Eyvazov took the stage. 

The Russian public will still have the opportunity to listen to Placido Domingo. His gala concert "Bolshoi and Placido Domingo: a Life in the Opera" is scheduled for October 24. Other famous opera soloists will perform with him.

At 79 years old, Placido Domingo actively working. The forced break was made only in March of this year, when the artist suffered an illness caused by a coronavirus infection.
