Young filmmakers from 40 countries are going to compete for awards at the VGIK International Student Film Festival. The current film forum, which started on Monday, October 19, will become an anniversary one, it will be held for the 40th time, TASS reports.

For a long time, the fate of the forum remained in question due to the unfavorable epidemiological situation. The festival was divided into two parts. The first stage, the VGIK student competition, will be held online. The second stage - international film and theater competitions - has been postponed until November.

The qualifying round will become a large-scale traditional show of all the creative forces of the Gerasimov All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography.

The students presented more than 170 works to the jury. For the first time in its long history, the creative forum will be held without spectators, the competitive screenings can be watched online.

The jury will work under the mangement of director and screenwriter Sergei Osipyan and will select winners in 13 nominations. The work of the contestants will be evaluated by the student jury as well. Several special prizes are also planned.

The winners of the first stage will have the right to represent Russia and compete for awards in an international competition. Almost 350 applications have already been submitted to participate in it, which is one third more than last year's figures.

A theater competition will also be held within the framework of the festival. Performances by renowned theater schools will be held online and broadcast on the festival's website.
