The Moscow International Film Festival opens on Thursday, October 1, the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper writes. The film forum is being held for the 42nd time.

Due to the unfavorable epidemiological situation, the public and participants are required to comply with sanitary safety rules, including mask mode and social distancing. Many public events are canceled. Online booking of tickets is introduced.

The screening is going to take place at the Oktyabr movie theater, the cinemas of the Tretyakov Gallery, and many other halls.

The Silver Skates directed by Mikhail Lokshin was chosen as the opening film. The action takes place in the last year of the 19th century in St. Petersburg, where the son of the lamplighter Matvey and the daughter of a major dignitary Alice meet.

A total of 180 films from 60 countries are planned to be shown.

As Russkiy Mir reported before, the MIFF competition program included films from Russia, Israel, Turkey, Brazil and other countries. 13 films will compete for the main prize. 

Executive Order by Lazaro Ramos, who represents Brazil, Fate by Zhanna Isabayeva from Kazakhstan, In the Shadows by Erdem Tepegoz from Turkey, Hilda by British director Rishi Pelham, The Barren Bride by Jadab Mahanta from India are among the participants.

Russian cinema will be represented by Andrei Zaitsev's A Siege Diary, Irina Evteeva's The melody of String Tree, Maxim Dashkin's Far Frontiers. Mikhail Lokshin's debut film Silver Skates will open the forum.

The main competition also includes the Russian-Azerbaijani film The Fisherman's Daughter by Ismail Safarali, Peaches&Cream by Israeli director Gura Bentvich and the Romanian Election Campaign by Marian Krishan.

The world premiere of Dissolve by the famous South Korean director Kim Ki Duk, filmed in Russian, will also take place during the festival.
