Moscow plans to allocate 20 million dollars for food aid for Syrian residents, TASS reports. The corresponding document was signed by Russia and the UN World Food Program (WFP). The funds will be transferred during 2020 and 2021.

The Russian Foreign Ministry explained that the WFP would ensure the purchase of Russian food products. Then they will be distributed among the needy population of the country as humanitarian aid. In addition, funds will be used to provide meals for schoolchildren and distribute food vouchers to pregnant and lactating women.

Earlier, Russia allocated ten million dollars to Cuba and Nicaragua to develop the schoolchildren's nutrition system. The money was allocated as part of Russia's participation in the UN WFP from 2020 to 2024. Moscow also plans to donate more than 21 million dollars to Tajikistan for the development of the catering system in schools. More than 50% of this amount will be transferred to the implementation of the corresponding project by WFP.

Russia is one of the 20 main countries participating in the implementation of the UN WFP, Moscow has allocated over 430 million dollars to the project's activities for 17 years.
