Russia has increased the number of quotas for free education in universities for students from African countries by almost 80 places. This year, 1,843 places were allocated to the states of the continent through Rossotrudnichestvo. These figures were announced during the presentation of the secretariat of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum, the Kommersant newspaper reports.

The largest number of places in terms of quotas among African countries was received by Zambia, Angola and Egypt were also in the top three. According to 2019 data, Africans choose to study engineering and technical sciences, social sciences, and medicine in Russia. According to Irina Abramova, director of the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, agriculture-related specialties are also popular among African youth.

The head of the institute noted that at the moment there were agreements on scientific cooperation and exchange between universities in Russia and 17 African countries. The leaders in terms of the number of agreements include Egypt, South Africa and Angola.
