Manuscripts of the translation of Leo Tolstoy's novel War and Peace by the legendary Chinese translator Cao Ying are on display at the Maritime Silk Road Culture and Tourism Fair in Ningbo (China). This year, Russia has become a guest of honor at the fair, Xinhua reports.

In addition to War and Peace, the exhibition features other works by Leo Tolstoy and the works of Russian classics in Russian and Chinese. In China, the name Cao Ying is associated with Leo Tolstoy, since he spent many years working on the texts of the Russian classic and as a result translated the complete collection of Tolstoy's works into Chinese.

The merits of Cao Ying, who opened many Russian and Soviet writers for the Chinese reader, were noted in the Soviet Union. In 1987, the translator was awarded the Maxim Gorky Literary Prize, and almost twenty years later received the Gorky Medal. Cao Ying passed away five years ago at the age of 93.
