In the French city of Grenay, located in the north of France, a new children's park has appeared. It was named after the Hero of the Soviet Union Vasily Porik. It is reported on its Facebook page by the Mémoire Russe association.

Lieutenant Vasily Porik led the partisan detachment after escaping from captivity, in the suburbs of the French city of Lens, the detachment carried out more than 300 successful operations and blew up ten fascist trains.

The lieutenant was captured in 1941, being surrounded and wounded. While in the Beaumont concentration camp in France, Poric managed to contact the local Resistance and create a POWs committee. A mass escape took place in Germany while transporting the wounded, with help from local residents. The participants in the escape made up a partisan detachment, which consisted of about 300 fighters.

When creating the park project, the opinion of the younger generation was taken into account. The opening plans were hampered by an unfavorable epidemiological situation. Nevertheless, a memorial plaque was installed in honor of Vasily Porik and Julien Fasquel. The next item will be planting trees in the new park.

Red Army Lieutenant Vasily Porik, who led a detachment of Soviet partisans in France during World War II, could have turned 100 on February 17. The outstanding commander was shot by the Nazis in 1944 at the age of 22. He is the only officer in the Red Army to be posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for his exploits in France.
