German customs officials are going to return 3,000 icons to Russia, TASS reports. They were all confiscated in an attempted smuggling into Germany. The German authorities decided to transfer the icons to Russia, as leading Russian experts confirmed the origin of the relics.

Over the past decade, more than 250 items of great artistic and historical value were returned to Russia with the assistance of Interpol, including the icons created in the 15th – 19th centuries. The list of returned items include unique archival documents, including decrees of Russian emperors and much more.
