The premiere screening of the Captain Nemo documentary, dedicated to the tragically deceased Russian hockey player Ivan Tkachenko, took place at the Russian Embassy in Washington. Before the start of the show, diplomats and spectators paid tribute to the victims of the September 11 terrorist attack, the Russian Embassy in the United States reports on Facebook.

Russian Ambassador Anatoly Antonov noted that the film screening was a step towards the resumption of contacts between Russians and Americans in the field of culture, history and human communication, the activity of which has decreased due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Ivan Tkachenko died nine years ago in a plane crash near Yaroslavl along with his colleagues from the Lokomotiv team. The screening of the film was timed to coincide with the tragedy that happened on September 7 and killed 44 people. The documentary tells about the life of the athlete who, as it turned out after the plane crash, donated large sums to charity.

According to the head of the Rossotrudnichestvo office in the United States, Mark Kalinin, the death of the Yaroslavl team had a great resonance in American society and in the country's sports field, and it is still well remembered.

The screening of the film was held with the assistance of Play it Abroad Inc, which previously held Russian Heritage Night sports and cultural evenings in ten American cities with the participation of hockey players, fans and folklore groups of Russian compatriots.
