Number of Chinese students in Russian universities more than doubled in 5 years

The number of Chinese students in Russian universities has increased by more than 100% over the past five years, and the number of Russians in Chinese universities has increased by 36%. The results of the five-year plan and steps to expand cooperation were discussed by the members of the Russian-Chinese subcommittee on cooperation in education, the Russian Embassy in China reports on its Facebook page.

The meeting of the subcommittee existing within the Russian-Chinese commission on humanitarian cooperation was held in the format of a videoconference. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry of Education of Russia, the Ministry of Education of China, as well as diplomats, scientists and employees of the joint university opened in Shenzhen.

The parties noted the fulfillment of the task to increase the number of participants in educational exchanges, declared in 2015. The countries managed to reach the planned figure of 100,000 people back in 2019. Currently, about 48,000 students from China are studying in Russian universities, the number of Russian students in Chinese universities is 20,000.

They also discussed issues of developing educational cooperation and supporting the study of the Russian language in China and the Chinese language in Russia. The countries also intend to continue cooperation in the field of general, secondary vocational and additional education. The next meeting of the subcommittee members is scheduled for next year.
