Moscow began to celebrate the City Day. The celebration in honor of the 873th anniversary of the capital is traditionally held on the first weekend of September, the Rossiyskaya Gazeta writes. The current celebrations will not be as large-scale as before, since the mass festivities were canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. It was decided to abandon the festival on Tverskaya Street.

The theme of the holiday will be museums. Ninety museums and exhibition halls have announced free admission. To comply with social distance measures and sanitary safety rules, a preliminary appointment was organized.

Art objects have appeared in parks and other festival venues in various districts of the city, historical reconstructions and intellectual games are planned. There will be master classes and sports competitions, exhibitions and lectures inspired by the main museum exhibits of the capital. It is also planned to hold programs from Moscow museums, which will take guests into the distant past, allow them to touch the works of art and tell about natural resources, the wonders of science and technology.

A significant part of the events will be devoted to the history of the city. Guests of the Kolomenskoye Museum-Reserve will see Moscow as it was in the 16th and 17th centuries. In Pechatniki, guests are welcome to visit the archaeological excavations and see the finds made during the work in the capital.

The Mitino Landscape Park will take visitors back to the First World War.

The President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin is planning to speak at the celebration. The Kremlin called this holiday very important. According to the head of state, “the well-being of the whole country largely depends on how the capital feels”.
