Soviet soldiers paid thousands of lives for helping China in the fight against the Japanese army 75 years ago, reminded the head of the Russian Historical Society Sergei Naryshkin. He said this during a teleconference that linked Russia and China. It was dedicated to the anniversary of the end of World War II, TASS reports.

The sacrifice of Soviet soldiers allowed to reduce the losses among the civilian population and allies, the expert added.

The advance of the Red Army in Manchuria smashed the enemy's defensive positions, and the huge Kwantung Army, which numbered a million people, surrendered. It took only ten days to do this.

Soviet and Chinese soldiers liberated northeastern China and the north of the Korean Peninsula. Scientists have no doubt that the timely help from the Soviet armed forces brought closer the victory in the liberation war of the Chinese people with militaristic Japan, Naryshkin specified.

Sergei Naryshkin noted that there are burials of about 15,000 Soviet soldiers on Chinese territory. He expressed gratitude to China for its careful attitude to common monuments and military graves.

Naryshkin recalled that the Soviet Union had provided China with great assistance in the post-war restoration of Chinese industry, and the implementation of joint infrastructure projects had begun.
