Russian compatriots living in Mauritius organized a fundraiser for the residents of the island who lost their earnings due to an oil spill off the coast of Mauritius. Twenty food packages were purchased at the expense of compatriots and employees of the Russian Embassy. They were passed on to children in need, according to the Compatriots in the Republic of Mauritius Facebook group.

Due to the collapse of a Japanese bulk carrier and an oil spill, a number of industries in Mauritius were paralyzed. Most of all, the disaster affected fishermen and workers of water attractions, who were virtually left without means of subsistence.

Russian compatriots living on the island, as well as local organizations, came to the aid of such people. Olga Bogacheva, Chair of the Coordinating Council of Organizations of Russian Compatriots, became one of the coordinators of the charitable assistance. Olga Bogacheva participates in the search for patrons, collection of donations and the purchase of food sets.
