The Victory Together film festival starts on Thursday, August 27, TASS reports. According to a tradition that has existed for more than a decade and a half, Sevastopol hosts the festival. This year, the film forum has become the 16th in a row, neither sanctions nor a pandemic could prevent it.

The main theme of the large-scale event in the cultural life of the region will be the victory anniversary. According to the project manager Valery Ruzin, the key task of the forum will be to protect the truth about the Great Patriotic War, to prevent the falsification of history.

The festival program includes documentaries and television programs. Applications for participation were sent from 45 countries. Representatives of more than 20 Russian regions and 37 countries will gather in Sevastopol. The number of works that will compete for victory in various nominations exceeds 150.

The program will include a national documentary film competition and four international ones. These include a documentary competition, a television competition, a film school competition and a social film, video and advertising competition. Competitive film screenings will be complemented by special programs, conferences, and creative meetings. Festival venues will also open in Kursk, Barnaul, Krasnoyarsk and Moscow.

Senator from Sevastopol, historian Yekaterina Altabaeva noted that such attention to documentary films on the Great Patriotic War is especially important, given the attempts to falsify this historical period which have become more frequent in recent years.
