Three Russian universities were among the 50 best universities in the world, according to the Moscow Three University Missions international ranking. Russia is represented by Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU), St. Petersburg State University (SPBGU) and Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT), which were able to improve their performance compared to last year, the Izvestia newspaper reports.

The highest position among Russian universities was taken by MSU, which is close to the top 20. SPBGU and MIPT have risen to the 40th and 46th lines, respectively, among 1,500 universities from 97 countries. 101 Russian universities were included in the list.

The ranking takes into account three main indicators of the effectiveness of universities: educational activities, scientific research and interaction with local communities. The pandemic introduced new criteria to the rating: the accessesibility of the information and the quality of online courses.

The rating showed an increase in the number of foreign students in Russian universities. According to this indicator, they were ahead of universities from the United States and many other countries.
