The coronavirus pandemic and related restrictions will not prevent Russia from cropping a large grain harvest, which is likely to exceed the result of 2019 and will be the second in history after a record 2017. Experts note that an impressive harvest will not lead to a drop in grain prices due to relatively low rates in European countries, the Izvestia newspaper reports.

According to statistics, a week before the end of summer, cereals were harvested from almost 57.5% of the sown area, which shows an impressive yield. More than 90 million tons of grain have been threshed - according to last year, which was also considered quite successful, by this time 26.6 million tons were harvested.

The volume of wheat in comparison with the end of August 2019 increased by more than 10 million tons. It is noted that the increase in yield at the moment is almost two centners per hectare. In the last decade, the grain yield in Russia has made a leap forward by a third. It is possible that the yield indicators of the record 2017 may be surpassed in the current season.

It is expected that a good harvest will not lead to lower prices on the market, experts attribute this to low rates in Europe due to unfavorable weather conditions. For example, in France, wheat harvest may drop by a quarter, making the season one of the worst in 20 years.
