Festival of Russian culture starts in western Germany

Vivat, Russia! Festival is going to take place in Wuppertal (western Germany) on the last Saturday of summer. The event will open on August 29 at the Applause Center for Russian-German Culture at the initiative of the All-German Coordination Council of Russian Compatriot Organizations and with the support of the Russian Embassy, ​​the Russkoye Pole newspaper reports.

Festivals of Russian culture are held annually in cities and towns in Germany. Last year, the Vivat, Russia! Festival took place in Kiel. Festival events gathered thousands of spectators in the main square of the city.

Festival guests saw an art exhibition and gala concert dedicated to Russia. According to the organizers of the festival, which is annually held in different cities of Germany under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Russia and with the support of the All-German Coordination Council of Organizations of Russian Compatriots, the purpose of the large-scale cultural forum is to promote the Russian language and culture of Russia abroad, acquaint Germans with the history and traditions of Russia.

Traditional Russian holidays are also celebrated in Wuppertal; this year Maslenitsa was widely celebrated in the city - with festivities, food and contests.
