The Olympic Bear flew into the sky from the Moscow Luzhniki stadium 40 years ago, MIR 24 channel reports. On August 3, 1980, the Olympic Games, which were hosted by the capital of the Soviet Union, ended.

This moment became one of the most memorable and touching ones. The Olympic flag was lowered to the sound of the anthem, and the athletes who took part in the 1980 Olympics entered the field.

The polar bear, which became the symbol of the Games in Sochi, looks like its predecessor. And he, like the Moscow Bear, “burst into tears” at the closing of the 2014 Winter Olympics.

The"Goodbye, Moscow" song, performed at the closing ceremony of the event, became the anthem of the Olympic Games. It was performed by Lev Leshchenko and Tatiana Antsiferova.

The Olympic Games were held from July 19 to August 3, 1980. Over 14 days of competition, 74 Olympic, 39 European and 36 world records were set. Soviet athletes won 195 awards, including 80 gold ones, and took first place in the team event.

The bear and other symbols of the Moscow 1980 Olympics returned to the Russian capital as part of a campaign dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the Games. The symbols appeared on the facades of the Cosmos Hotel and the Ostankino TV Tower. Events dedicated to the anniversary of the Olympics were also held in other cities of Russia.
