The Russian pharmaceutical company R-Pharm has reached an agreement on the production of a coronavirus vaccine developed by the British-Swedish AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford. R-Pharm plans to supply the vaccine to dozens of countries around the world, TASS reports.
According to the head of the board of directors of the company Alexei Repik, the project uses the technological capabilities of R-Pharm. The partners entrusted the Russian company to produce the antigen and release the finished drug, which is currently undergoing research and testing.
R-Pharm will also act as a hub from which the vaccine will be delivered to dozens of countries in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the CIS. The vaccine will also be used in Russia.
In Western countries, it was previously reported that Russian hackers allegedly attempted to steal information about the vaccine. Russian representatives denied the accusations. Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, noted that the vaccine production technology had already been handed over to R-Pharm by British partners.
Alexander Gintsburg, director of the Gamaleya Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, told RIA Novosti about the idea of cooperation in view of the common threat. According to him, the vaccine production technology developed by the center's specialists surpasses foreign analogues. Russian scientists are ready to share their developments with foreign colleagues.
