Russian and American scientists to cooperate on COVID-19

Russian and foreign scientists plan to work together to study issues related to the new coronavirus, RIA Novosti reports. The corresponding agreement was concluded by the Russian Academy of Sciences and the US National Academy of Sciences. The document was signed by the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Alexander Sergeev, and the head of the US National Academy of Sciences, Marcia McNutt. The signing ceremony took place online.

Scientific institutions will strengthen and expand cooperation in all areas related to COVID-19. The Academies of Sciences of the Russian Federation and the United States will interact in studying the nature of the virus, methods of treatment and prevention. In particular, it is planned to conduct joint epidemiological, virological, molecular biological studies. Scientists from the two countries are going to study the pathophysiology of the new infection, engage in mathematical and computer modeling of the spread of the pandemic, assess the socio-economic and psychological consequences of the coronavirus, strengthen global security and counter biological threats.
