President Vladimir Putin has signed the law on liberalization of the procedure for obtaining Russian citizenship for parents and children of Russian citizens, the Parlamentskaya Gazeta newspaper writes. The document was published the day before, on July 13, on the official portal of legal information.

The procedure for obtaining a passport will be facilitated for foreigners whose children already have Russian citizenship and have reached 18 years of age. To date, this provision applies only to disabled people who have legally capable adult children with a Russian passport.

In 2017, according to this provision, more than 7,000 people became citizens of Russia, in 2018 their number exceeded 8,000 people. In the first half of last year, almost 4,500 job seekers took advantage of it.

The decision to grant underaged applicants citizenship under a simplified procedure can be made even if the applicant turns 18 during the period of consideration of the application submitted by his legal representatives. In addition, according to the document, all foreigners intending to obtain Russian citizenship will be fingerprinted.
