French cultural organizations have presented to Russia a monument to Jeanne d'Arc, TASS reports. The ceremony of the transfer of the monument took place on the eve of July 8. It was held in the Russian Spiritual and Cultural Center.

According to Russian Ambassador to France Alexei Meshkov, Jeanne d'Arc represents a vivid symbol of patriotism and love for the motherland. Her monument embodied the spirit of the struggle with the enslavers.

The diplomat assured that these feelings were very understandable to the Russian people, and the monument will become a symbol of friendship between the states. The diplomat said that the statue would decorate the Northern capital. The sculpture will be placed near the Admiralty.

The head of the French Association of Friends of Jeanne d'Arc, Jacques Tremollet de Ville, called the transfer of the monument "a cordial gift from Saint France to Saint Russia." He recalled that the memory of the legendary Frenchwoman is immortalized in different parts of the world. “We are proud that this statue will be erected in Russia,” the public figure concluded.

The ceremony in the French capital ended with the laying of flowers at the monument.

The proposal to erect a monument in Russia appeared several years ago. Back then, Sergey Naryshkin, who heads the Russian Historical Society, supported the initiative, calling it the personification of the friendship of the Russian and French peoples, which has been going on for many centuries.
