Expedition to investigate battle sites of Russian fleet in Greece

Members of the Russian Geographical Society (RGS) plan to go on an international educational expedition to Greece this autumn. The project of the Kostroma branch of the RGS has been approved by the Presidential Grants Fund. The members of the expedition the basing sites and battle fields of the Russian fleet that took place in 1770-1774, the website of the RGS reports.

Scientists and researchers will be joined by students of Kostroma schools, who will undergo selection and preparation.

The expedition is expected to deliver discoveries that will be shot by a film crew. After the participants return home, the film will be presented to the general public.

The project is dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the legendary victory in the Chesme battle, which allowed Russia to establish itself as a strong naval power, and the establishment of the Archipelago Province, which lasted four years.
