Activists of the Coordination Council of Russian Compatriots in Bavaria began work to collect information about the graves of unknown soldiers in Germany. In June, members of the council made an account of the graves with inscriptions in Russian at one of Munich's cemeteries, the Russkoe Pole reports.

Most of the graves on the list contain the words "Unknown Soldier" or "Unknown" and the date of death. The chairwoman in Bavaria, Elena Herzog, said that 105 graves with Cyrillic letters were found in the Kriegsgräberstätte Waldfriedhof München cemetery. Most of these burials were made in 1944–45.

The activists began their work by searching for information on the Internet and open sources, and the fate of some of those whose names were indicated on the monuments were clarified thanks to the Internet lists of Soviet prisoners of war. Activists also found information about a German soldier who was shot in April 1944 for anti-fascist beliefs.
