A round table was held on the development and support of the Russian language and culture in Australia. It was timed to the Day of Russia, according to the website of the Council of Russian Compatriots in Australia.

The videoconference brought together representatives of Russian schools and other educational and cultural institutions of Australia, as well as organizations of Russian compatriots. The round table was attended by Anton Chirva, First Secretary of the Russian Embassy in Australia, and Elena Khmilevskaya, representative of the Russkiy Mir Foundation.

Participants discussed the consolidation of the Russian-speaking community in different regions of Australia, as well as the organization of projects in the educational and cultural fields aimed at popularizing the Russian language and culture of Russia in the country.

Suggestions were made aimed at maintaining interest in studying the Russian language among schoolchildren and families, and supporting students and teachers. Anton Chirva said that the Russian embassy would support the initiatives of compatriots.

In early March 2020, Australia awarded the first winners of the Teacher of the Year contest for teachers of Russian schools in the country. Experts from Russia, Australia and Spain evaluated the work of the contestants, in which they talked about their working methods.
