The low mortality from coronavirus in Russia can be explained by the fact that many tests were performed in the country to detect infection, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Nevertheless, WHO spokesman Michael Ryan called the fact of such a mortality rate "unusual", TASS reports.

According to him, the Russian authorities are conducting many tests for coronavirus, and they show the results very quickly. When testing involves a lot of people, this leads to the fact that the mortality rate is quite low.

Michael Ryan also noted that WHO had prepared and sent recommendations to all countries aimed at certification of deaths in the case of COVID-19. The representative of the international organization assured that this is not an easy procedure. It is accompanied by various conditions regarding the causes of death, which can be explained in different ways.

Earlier, the Kremlin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov did not agree with the statements of American journalists who had accused Moscow of underestimating the number of deaths from coronavirus. Peskov noted that the healthcare system in Russia works efficiently and is capable of saving many lives.
