Scientists from different countries discussed role of Russian in modern world

More than 500 scientists, philologists, and Russian scholars joined Russian Language and Literature in the Slavic World: History and Present conference, the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper reports. The forum was organized by Lomonosov Moscow State University and the Society of Russian Literature. Among the participants were both Russian specialists and representatives of China, Turkey, India, the Czech Republic and other countries.

The conference is dedicated to the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture, which is celebrated on May 24. Due to restrictions aimed at counteracting the spread of coronavirus infection, it was decided to conduct it via Zoom. The forum was also dedicated to the professional holiday of philologists; it was celebrated on May 25.

The forum was attended by teachers of secondary and higher educational institutions, museum and library staff. They prepared presentations on the history of Slavic writing, the problems of identity of the modern Slavic world, and raised topics of the Russian language and Russian literature in the modern world.

Rector of Moscow State University, Academician Viktor Sadovnichy, spoke about the different stages in the formation of philological science at Moscow University. He also congratulated the winners of international online projects of the university of the Dialogue of Eras creative competition and the 2nd season of the Literary Game - Victory and Literature All-Russian campaign.

Vice-President of the Association of Russianists of Slovakia Milan Buyniak spoke about the importance of Russian literature in modern life. A Russian scientist from India, Minu Bhatnagar, shared how the coronavirus pandemic affected language vocabulary. Liu Juan, a professor at Beijing Normal University, spoke about how Chinese students of the Russian language perceive Russian culture. The teacher of the Catholic University Ruzomberok Tomas Gimra spoke about the place that Pushkin’s language occupies in the education system of Slovakia.

Thanks to the online format of the conference, colleagues located in different parts of the world were able to communicate with each other. The success of this major international project opens a new page in the development of cooperation between scientists from different countries.
