Day of Slavic writing and culture is celebrated on May 24 in Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and other Slavic countries. This day will host online conferences, lectures, church services and other events. Special programs for the holiday were prepared by Russian compatriots living in different countries.

In Russia, the holiday of Russian culture and the memory of Saints Cyril and Methodius has been officially celebrated since 1991 by a resolution of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of Russia, my-calend.ru reports.

Cyril and Methodius were born in the family of a Byzantine military leader; they gained extensive knowledge in Greek and Eastern cultures. The Slavic alphabet created by Cyril and Methodius gave impetus to the development of culture and the spread of knowledge among Slavic peoples. In Russia, the emergence of writing served as an impetus for the development of book publishing and literature.

The Day of Slavic Written Language would be celebrated with a large festive program at VDNKh – Moscow’s exhibition center. It will include lectures, screenings of videos and cartoons about the history of the formation of the Russian language. Russian regions have prepared large-scale online programs.

In Poland, a creative marathon is timed to the holiday; the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Warsaw launched contests of drawings, readers and essays. The representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo in Vietnam, with the assistance of the Slovo Center for Slavic Writing, has prepared an online exhibition on the development of writing in Russia.
