The Russian health care system withstands the burden caused by the coronavirus infection spread, Melita Vujnovic, the World Health Organization (WHO) Representative to the Russian Federation. According to her, Russia has enough hospital beds,  mechanical ventilation devices and other medical equipment, RIA Novosti reports.

The representative of WHO emphasized that the authorities had implemented a whole range of measures aimed at containing the epidemic within the country. WHO did not have to make any recommendations in Moscow, Vujnovic added.

The expert also praised the Russian epidemiological service. It began working almost immediately, and it paid off, as the outbreak was prevented. The self-isolation regime also played an important role, the representative of WHO stated.

All this gives reason to hope that the reduction in the incidence rate will become sustainable. Melita Vujnovic clarified that it would be possible to talk about a sustainable process to reduce the infection of COVID-19 when a steady decrease in newly detected cases is recorded over a period of two to three weeks.
