Washington’s attitude to history can be called unfortunate, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said. However, these kinds of statements no longer cause surprise, he added, commenting on the message of the White House on the anniversary of the victory in WWII, TASS reports.

Washington had previously declared USA and Great Britain as the only victors of fascism, forgetting to mention the Soviet Union. The Russian Foreign Ministry called this statement the desire to distort the historical truth.

Such statements are the result of processing people's consciousness, says Sergey Lavrov. They have no immunity from propaganda, which is making every effort to equate fascist Germany and the Soviet Union and accuse Moscow of unleashing the Second World War.

The head of Russian diplomacy promised that the Russian authorities would certainly find a way to discuss issues of falsification of history and the importance of preserving historical memory with foreign colleagues. Unfortunately, he added, nowadays there is no international structure that meets these needs.

Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry noted that the American elite had failed to pay tribute to “the indisputable role and colossal disparate victims” of the Soviet people and the Red Army, to pay a debt of memory and gratitude.

The department reminded that such an attitude runs counter to the joint statement of the leaders of Russia and the United States. made in honor of the anniversary of the meeting on the Elbe. The corresponding document focuses on the joint efforts of the two countries in the fight against a common enemy.
