Tchaikovsky online festival opened with Swan Lake

The online festival, dedicated to the 180th anniversary of the Russian composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky, opened with the Swan Lake ballet performed by the Perm Opera and Ballet Theater. Until May 6, Russian ballet lovers around the world will be able to watch Tchaikovsky’s operas and ballets staged by prominent directors and choreographers on various online venues, TASS reports.

In addition to the Perm Theater’s website and YouTube channel, performances will be screened on the Okko online cinema, the Kultura.rf and Dom.ru website and on Yandex platforms.

The program included recordings of Tchaikovsky's symphonic works, the Eugene Onegin opera and the ballet Serenade choreographed by the legendary George Balanchine. The online festival is going to end with the Nutcracker ballet, which is very popular all over the world.


The Swan Lake, which opened the festival, preserved fragments of Marius Petipa choreography. The Perm Theater made the ballet performance in the 19th style. The Perm Opera and Ballet Theater received the name of Tchaikovsky in 1965, premieres of all the stage works of the composer were held on its stage.
