More than 200,000 people have already joined the St. George Ribbon campaign this year, RIA Novosti reports.

According to representatives of the Victory Volunteers movement, this year the rally, which has been going on for a decade and a half, had to be organized in a new format. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, it will be held online. Now anyone can post their photo with a ribbon on their page in various social networks, providing it with appropriate hashtags. People can use the virtual St. George’s ribbon on the Victory Volunteers page on Instagram and overlay it on their picture. This has already been done by more than 55,000 people.

The project was launched in 2005, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War. Every year, many people wear St. George ribbons with pleasure. For those who do not know the meaning of the ribbon, volunteers talk about its history and how similar events are held around the world.

The action has long become international; it is held in dozens of countries around the world. You can get the symbol of Victory in the centers of Russian culture, as well as at events held by the Russian diaspora. Activists distributed fifteen million ribbons to residents of Russia and foreign countries during the existence of the action.

This year, volunteers hand out ribbons to shops, pharmacies, elderly people and veterans who are on isolation, medical workers and law enforcement officers. All ribbons are pre-disinfected and processed. In addition, Victory Volunteers present ribbons to veterans during product delivery.

35 countries have already joined the action, including the USA, Great Britain, Germany, Latvia, Lebanon and others.
