The historical and educational Victory Roads action has been adopted for the online format by the efforts of the Russian Military Historical Society and the Rossotrudnichestvo representative office in Vienna, the agency’s website reports.

The online action is dedicated to the anniversary of the liberation of the Austrian capital from German occupation by the forces of the Red Army. All users will be able to take a virtual tour of the places of military glory, see the monuments to Soviet soldiers, learn more about how the Vienna offensive operation took place.

The fight against the spread of coronavirus and the restrictive measures taken in connection with the difficult epidemiological situation did not allow a campaign in historical places and memorial ceremonies. Nevertheless, the pandemic did not cause the rejection of anniversary celebrations. The Rossotrudnichestvo representative office is preparing an audio guide that will become an alternative to a traditional walking tour.

The Austrian authorities take care of several hundred war memorials, where those who gave their lives for the freedom of the Austrian people are buried.

In addition, the scientific director of the Historical Society Mikhail Myagkov will tell about the history of the liberation of the city. Rossotrudnichestvo in Vienna will present a film dedicated to the liberation of the Austrian capital by soldiers of the Red Army in April 1945.

The Victory Roads project aims to preserve the historical memory of compatriots and foreign citizens. Another important task is to counter attempts to falsify the liberation mission of the Red Army.
