The St. George Ribbon campaign started on Tuesday, April 28, according to RIA Novosti. It has become the fifteenth in a row. During the existence of the action, activists of the movement distributed fifteen million ribbons to residents of Russia and foreign countries.

The project was launched in 2005, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War. Every year, many people wear St. George ribbons with pleasure. For those who do not know the meaning of the ribbon, volunteers explain its history and how similar events are held around the world.

The action has long become international; it is held in dozens of countries around the world. One can get the ribbon in the centers of Russian culture, as well as at events held by the Russian diaspora.

This year, the coronavirus pandemic prevented the usual format of the action, and the organizers decided not to give out ribbons to passers-by.

The organizers note that many people, having received a ribbon once, keep it, wear it as a symbol of the victory for more than one year. Everyone is invited to find a ribbon at home, take a picture with it and post the picture on social networks, adding to it a story about why the action is of great importance for them personally.

Volunteers bring the ribbons to shops, pharmacies, pass them to elderly people and veterans who are on self-isolation, medical workers and law enforcement officers. All ribbons are pre-disinfected.
