The St. George Ribbon campaign has been launched in the United States, TASS reports. It started in Chicago on Sunday, April 26. A plane with a thirty-meter St. George ribbon flew over the city and Lake Michigan for several hours.

The organizer of the action is the Russian Youth of America Society. According to its leader Igor Kochan, the ribbon was made specifically for this action. He noted that aviation is often used for advertising campaigns in the United States, but the ribbons is much larger than regular banners.

St. George ribbon in the sky over American cities can be seen several more times. The action will take place on April 30 in Dallas, May 4 - in San Francisco, May 9 - in New York.

The ribbons will be distributed to compatriots living overseas. In New York alone, several thousand people will receive ribbons. Other cities of the United States also take part in the project.

This year, due to the epidemiological situation, ribbons won’t be given out to passers-by. However, the organizers promised to leave the ribbons in grocery stores, so that everyone could get them.

The St. George Ribbon has long become an international event, it is held in dozens of countries around the world. One can get the symbol of victory in the centers of Russian culture, as well as at events held by the Russian diaspora.

The action has been held for a decade and a half. The project was launched in 2005, to honor the 60th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War. Every year, many people wear St. George ribbons with pleasure.
