The Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) has sent humanitarian aid to Apulia (Italy), the Vesti TV program reports. A compound of the ROC, where the relics of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker are located, is situated in the capital of this region, Bari.

According to the governor of Apulia, Michele Emigliano, they decided to turn to Patriarch Cyril, as the situation was difficult in the region. A few days ago, the head of the Russian Church was asked to assist in the provision of personal protective equipment and masks.

The ROC sent to Italy eight tons of medical supplies: thermometers, masks, medical gowns, glasses, disinfectants.

Earlier, this region already received assistance from Russia to combat the epidemic of coronavirus: in early April, surgical masks, respirators and medical bandages arrived in the region.

Russkiy Mir reported that Russian military doctors, virologists and epidemiologists were helping their Italian counterparts to fight COVID-19. Among them, there are those who fought African plague, anthrax, and Ebola.
