Washington has admitted its own egoism as part of the fight against the spread of coronavirus by stopping the allocation of money for the World Health Organization (WHO), said Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov. According to him, Moscow called on the American authorities to abandon further attacks on WHO, the Izvestia newspaper writes.

Earlier, the American President Donald Trump accused the WHO experts of hiding information about the virus and mismanaging. According to Mike Pompeo, who heads the US State Department, WHO failed to cope with its main function of timely and objective raise of public awareness of dangerous infections.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres criticized the US decision. He is confident that Washington chose the wrong time to stop funding.

The Russian MFA’s spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, called Washington’s actions a desire to relieve itself of responsibility and point out those responsible for the pandemic. American politicians, she noted, always have someone to blame. They blame China and WHO for the spread of the coronavirus infection, and they blame Moscow for Clinton’s failure at the elections. The President of Russia was accused of problems of American medicine, she added.

Spokesman for the head of state Dmitry Peskov explained that Russia follows the statement adopted at the last G20 summit - the G20, together with WHO, is determined to do everything possible to overcome the pandemic.
