An online conference dedicated to the meeting of Soviet and American soldiers on the Elbe in the spring of 1945 will bring together political scientists and historians from two countries on April 25. The teleconference will become a kind of replacement for the face-to-face conference that the representatives of the parties planned to hold in Torgau, where the meeting of the troops of the USSR and the USA took place, TASS reports.

According to the scientific director of the Institute of the USA and Canada of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Sergei Rogov, the conference was shifted to the online format due to the coronavirus pandemic. According to the scientist, American historiography clearly calls the US contribution to the victory over fascism decisive.

US historians in their writings on World War II are ready to partially share the victory with Great Britain, and the Soviet Union is “mentioned in passing”. Sergei Rogov said that many ordinary Americans are unaware that Moscow and Washington were allies in World War II.

In early April, the opening of a virtual photo exhibition dedicated to the meeting on the Elbe took place. The exposition was opened by the Heritage Russian American cultural center as part of the Month of Russian-American History in New York State.
