Russian scientists to help develop COVID-19 antigen standard

The experts from the St. Petersburg Research Institute of Vaccines and Serums of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency (FMBA) of Russia will take part in the development of an international standard for antigen and antibodies against the new coronavirus. Representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO) praised the development of Russian scientists, TASS reports.

The proposal to join the development of the standard was made to the experts of the research Institute as part of an online conference, the results of joint work are planned to be applied in the international fight against the virus.

The FMBA scientists successfully located the coronavirus-specific antibodies in the sera of cured patients with an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The Russian researchers substantiated the scientific findings by analyzing biological samples, which exceeded in number the base of presented scientific projects from other countries.

The FMBA press service stated that WHO experts highly appreciated the level of scientific research in the field of serum production, which are carried out in the Russian Research Institute and in a number of foreign universities.
