The Russian health care system is prepared for a possible increase in cases of the coronavirus infection, the Ministry of Health assured. The department noted that almost 80,000 special places have been deployed throughout the country for infected patients. Nearly 50,000 mechanical ventilation devices are available to doctors, RIA Novosti reports. If such a need arises, the number of beds and equipment can be quickly increased. In Russia alone, about a thousand ventilators are produced every week.

The ministry emphasized that, according to the World Health Organization, Russia is on the list of world leaders in the number of hospital beds. WHO official statistics say that in Russia there are more than eight hundred hospital beds per hundred thousand inhabitants. Russia is second only to Germany, Belarus and Monaco in this indicator.

Earlier, Nikolai Briko, chief epidemiologist of the Ministry of Health, said that in Russia, the highest number of the coronavirus cases can be expected soon. Most likely, he notes, the number of new cases will increase over the next few days and will decrease afterwards.
