Serbian authorities requested Russia’s assistance in fight against coronavirus

The Serbian authorities turned to Moscow with a request for assistance in countering the spread of the coronavirus, TASS reports. The decision was made by members of the Government of Serbia at a meeting on Thursday, March 26.

According to local media, Belgrade has requested specific assistance through an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the field of humanitarian emergency response. The request was sent by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia.

The agreement has been in force for more than ten years. Within its framework, the Russian-Serbian Humanitarian Center (RSHC) was created. He has been working in Nis for almost eight years.

The center promotes a humanitarian response to emergencies in Serbia and other countries in the region. In particular, it organizes assistance for refugees from the Middle East and North Africa, which have recently flooded Serbia, Hungary, Macedonia, Greece and other countries.

The number of cases of coronavirus infection in Serbia reached almost five thousand, the number of victims of the disease increased to seven. The condition of another twenty-four people is considered serious. Fifteen people recovered.
