The World Chess Olympiad has been postponed, according to the website of the International Chess Federation (FIDE). The reason for this decision was the spread of coronavirus infection. The next tournament will be held in 2021.

The World Chess Paralympics and the Congress of FIDE were also postponed for a year.

World Chess Olympiads are held every two years. Khanty-Mansiysk and Moscow were supposed to host the current tournament. The opening ceremony was scheduled for July 29, the Paralympics - from July 30 to August 4, the main tournament of the Olympiad - for August 6-17.

Russkiy Mir reported that the 2020 Olympic Games, which were to be held in the summer in the Japanese capital, were rescheduled for next year. The corresponding decision was made after negotiations between the head of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

The parties to the negotiations are confident that this way it will be possible to protect the health of athletes, and participants of the Games.

Oleg Matytsin, the head of the Russian Ministry of Sports, noted that the department respected this decision.
