The abolishment of anti-Russian sanctions will be the best step to maintain the German economy, the German MP Anton Friesen said. In his opinion, this measure is especially necessary today, when the pandemic of a new virus has gripped the world, RIA Novosti reports.

The Bundestag deputy recalled that, according to experts, the fall will be up to one percent of GDP. At the same time, the German economy loses more than 660 million euros from sanctions every month. The amount of losses exceeds eight billion euros annually, Friesen specified. In addition, sanctions do not bring any benefits in terms of politics. The parliamentarian is sure that Berlin should refuse to extend restrictive measures against Russia at the EU summit, which will be held in early summer.

Hopefully, the coronavirus crisis will help everyone understand that security and economic development are possible only with Russia, and not against it, the member of parliament summed up.

Earlier, the abolition of sanctions was supported by another member of the Bundestag, Waldemar Gerdt. German political scientist Alexander Rahr suggested that a significant negative impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the German economy could lead to this step.
