The draft law on amendments to the Russian Constitution passed the third, final reading in the lower house of the Russian parliament. More than 380 deputies cast their votes for amendments to the country's fundamental law; deputies of the Communist Party faction decided to abstain. There was not a single vote against.

According to Vyacheslav Volodin, the chairman of the State Duma, the adoption of amendments to the Constitution is necessary in terms of challenges to modern reality and the existing request from society.

The parliamentarian recalled that the basic principles and values of the Constitution set out in chapters 1, 2 and 9 remain unchanged.

The speaker noted that now the deputies are gathering in the regions to meet with their voters and carry out work to clarify the amendments.

The law was submitted to the Federation Council for consideration; it is scheduled for Wednesday, March 11.

If the document is supported by deputies in 2/3 of the regions, the head of state will forward the request to the Constitutional Court to verify the provisions. All-Russian voting is scheduled for April 22. The new version of the main law will be published immediately after the publication of the results of the all-Russian vote.
