It is regrettable that an undisguised falsification of history has spread in many European countries, Russian diplomat Artyom Isakov stated. He said this during a speech at a meeting of the UN Human Rights Council, TASS reports. The session takes place in Geneva, Switzerland.

According to the Russian representative, the international community needs to scrutinize the glorification of Nazi collaborators. In addition, he recalled that the authorities of some countries staged a “war” with monuments. Such actions offend the memory of those who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of present generations.

Russia recalled that at the beginning of March in Latvia a gathering of sympathizers for the so-called “forest brothers” took place. The diplomat called it shameful, indicating that the meeting was attended by the former president of the Baltic Republic and current members of the Latvian government. Isakov reminded that the members of the gangster underground during World War II were faithful servants of Hitler and reprised the civil population.

It is impossible to cover such actions with statements about freedom of speech or declare them peaceful meetings. “There can be no freedom to spread Nazi ideology, praise Nazi accomplices or torchlight processions,” said the representative of the Russian delegation. Artyom Isakov urged the session participants not to forget that only thanks to the feat and dedication of the fighters against fascism “you and I can be here and have a discussion”.
