Nearly 220 million Russian viewers visited cinemas last year, which is almost 10% than during the previous year. These figures made Russia the leader of the list of European countries for film distribution, the website of the Film Fund reports.

For the second year in a row, Russia’s cinemas have been selling over two hundred million tickets for Russian and foreign films. It once again allowed Russia to surpass the performance of France and lead the European list of film distribution, as well as retain the title of one of the largest film consumers in the world.

Russia once again was ahead of the largest film markets in Europe, which entered the top five – the British, German and Spanish ones. In 2019, features screened at Russian cinemas raised over 55 billion, more than 10% higher than in 2018.

For the first time, the European Audiovisual Observatory used the Unified Information Automated System, operated by the Film Fund, as an official source of information on Russian film distribution.
